Race Relations

The president delivered a brief speech yesterday which seems to have inflamed many of a conservative mind who have accused him of 'race-baiting' and the like to serve his own political gain.

I wholeheartedly disagree with that point of view and think he is in a unique position as our commander-in-chief [and also a person with an African-American background] to make the point that racism is still alive and well in our country.  While I don't believe that the case in Sanford, Florida was really racial in its origin, I do think that, because some have tried to make it so, that the issue has come up and should be addressed from the highest level of our government.  I applaud him for his speech and thought the content was appropriate to the situation.  What are your thoughts?
