I can barely comprehend it...

Therefore, as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin; and so death passed unto all men, for that all sinned:-- -Romans 5:12 (ASV)

When I really stop to think about what Jesus has done for me, I can be easily overwhelmed by the eternal enormity of His gift. I always knew something was wrong with me and my relationship with God, but I could never put my finger on it. I always knew that He was there, but could not find a way to reach Him. Now, because of His incredible grace, I have a way. He met me where I'm at and renewed me through His sacrifice. More than that, He gave me a hope I never had before in His resurrection and the power to love Him each and every day through the Holy Spirit. Yes, when I stop to think of it "I scarce can take it in."

There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. -Romans 8:1-4 (ASV)

Slavery

Jesus responded, “I assure you: Everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. -John 8:34 (HCSB)

All too often, Christians may feel constrained by their faith and what they know to be the expectations of their Heavenly Father. Sometimes, in certain churches, the list of "don'ts" may seem longer than the ancient laws of Israel. Occasionally 'religious' people will sadly get caught up in that sort of thing. That can be a turn-off for many people and a valuable asset to the enemy, who wants you to feel bound by law and a slave to some sort of religious creed. The God I know and love is a God of freedom. I am freer as a slave to Christ than I ever was as a slave to sin. How about you? Are you free in Christ or bound by sin?

Just a bit of DISGUST...

I've got to admit I expected more from the do-nothing body we call Congress with its GOP majority at present. Instead, we got more of the same old tired rhetoric we have been getting for the past 7+ years now about how terrible Obamacare is.

The plan they managed to produce after all this time (Paul Ryan's) is not much better than what is in place and apparently leaves a lot of middle-class people financially screwed. I understand it polled with a 17% approval rate. All I know is the many votes over the past few years to repeal it were nothing more than political grandstanding --  a waste of time and taxpayer money. All the Republicans seem to be able to do is criticize and come up with little to offer themselves. They cannot even seem to reach a consensus among themselves (a problem they have had as long as I can remember).

Personally, I have felt for a long time that they should simply fix what is in place so it works better and offers more flexibility with lower costs. I th…

Get On With It!

When we learned last night of the appointment of special counsel to look into the accusations of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians, we were initially impressed with the measured response from the President. However, as I stated to my wife last night, I would have been surprised if that didn't all change by morning. And so it did. Why can't he leave leave matters alone and keep his fingers off of his smartphone or whatever gadget he uses to bombard Twitter with tweets that signify immaturity and are often caustic, to say the least?

I think if I were President Trump or on his staff I would welcome a special counsel investigation of the matter to put it to bed once and for all. Of course, I offer that with a presumption that he is innocent of accusations that have so far come without any evidence. Robert Mueller's credentials are basically impeccable and he is known as a man who will get to the bottom of things and follow the trail wherever it leads -- not…
