Summer

Being the first day of summer, I thought it appropriate to reflect that in the title of today's post. I wish everyone the best of summers! For me, this is a season of endings and beginnings. Fortunately, I have the LORD to help me make it through endings and deal with what sometimes can be the fear of new beginnings.

Most importantly, it looks like my wife is finally going to get the surgery she desperately needs to function free of pain. It has been a few years of hassles with the worker's compensation insurance company, so I'd say it is about time. It's major surgery (replacing the right shoulder with a prosthetic one), so she is understandably anxious around it. Secondly, we are in the process of evicting a tenant from our upstairs apartment who happens to be a family member. This, while very difficult with kids involved, is absolutely necessary. I won't go into details in a post about it, but suffice it to say it is one of the more difficult things we have had to do in our lives.

So, as I mentioned at the outset of this post, it is a season of endings and new beginnings. I think it is appropriate to include some verses about seasons from the book of Ecclesiastes:

A Time for Everything

 1. There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (NIV)
