Inauguration Day

Friday, January 20 is fast approaching. What that day will bring is anybody's guess. I, for one, will pray for a peaceful transition of power for which our nation has been so well known these past 240+ years.

Personally, I am very disappointed in the number of Democrats that have chosen to pass on being there. It's not about Donald Trump, it's about the tradition of our Democratic Republic to pass the mantle to another. It's a celebration of our special brand of democracy.

We owe it to our nation to give Donald Trump a chance and be as supportive of him as possible. He is going to be our president, like it or not. Where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, the Democrats said that about Barack Obama when he took the oath of office. As I recall, most Republicans agreed with them.

This isn't about finger-pointing at our fellow citizens who happen to be progressive and upset with Trump's win. Believe me, I'm the first to admit that Republicans did a pretty good job of obstructing President Obama's agenda as soon as possible after the first two years. This is about us all taking a good, hard look at ourselves and finding the areas we can reach a compromise in. That would truly go a long way in healing the divide. What would really help remove the divisiveness and foster unity? His name is Jesus.
