Comey Testimony

It's been a while since I have seen the kind of hype that there has been around having Director Comey testify in front of the Senate today. It seems worse than Watergate! There also seems to be no evidence thus far except for of the here-say variety .

No less than 5 times did he call President Trump (or his administration) a liar. Aside from what that does to the office of the President, it takes away from getting things done that so desperately need to get done. Now, please don't misunderstand, if there has been serious wrongdoing on the part of the Trump administration, then they need to be called out on it. We have already recently had 8 years of "anything-but-transparency" in Washington.

Reading the New York Times would lead one to the conclusion that this was a bad day for the Trump administration. I'm not so sure of that. I'm not huge fan of the President, but have to say that I did not hear anything qualifying as evidence to bring about impeachment proceedings based on obstruction of justice. I heard a lot of opinion, assertion and innuendo that hardly can be conveyed as damning evidence. Frankly, I think most level-headed Democrats would agree with my opinion, in that regard.

When I have time to read more about this and review some of the testimony, my opinion may change. But, just like evidence linking the Trump campaign to collusion with Russia during the presidential election, I just haven't seen a thing yet.

Slavery

Jesus responded, “I assure you: Everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. -John 8:34 (HCSB)

All too often, Christians may feel constrained by their faith and what they know to be the expectations of their Heavenly Father. Sometimes, in certain churches, the list of "don'ts" may seem longer than the ancient laws of Israel. Occasionally 'religious' people will sadly get caught up in that sort of thing. That can be a turn-off for many people and a valuable asset to the enemy, who wants you to feel bound by law and a slave to some sort of religious creed. The God I know and love is a God of freedom. I am freer as a slave to Christ than I ever was as a slave to sin. How about you? Are you free in Christ or bound by sin?

Just a bit of DISGUST...

I've got to admit I expected more from the do-nothing body we call Congress with its GOP majority at present. Instead, we got more of the same old tired rhetoric we have been getting for the past 7+ years now about how terrible Obamacare is.

The plan they managed to produce after all this time (Paul Ryan's) is not much better than what is in place and apparently leaves a lot of middle-class people financially screwed. I understand it polled with a 17% approval rate. All I know is the many votes over the past few years to repeal it were nothing more than political grandstanding --  a waste of time and taxpayer money. All the Republicans seem to be able to do is criticize and come up with little to offer themselves. They cannot even seem to reach a consensus among themselves (a problem they have had as long as I can remember).

Personally, I have felt for a long time that they should simply fix what is in place so it works better and offers more flexibility with lower costs. I th…

Get On With It!

When we learned last night of the appointment of special counsel to look into the accusations of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians, we were initially impressed with the measured response from the President. However, as I stated to my wife last night, I would have been surprised if that didn't all change by morning. And so it did. Why can't he leave leave matters alone and keep his fingers off of his smartphone or whatever gadget he uses to bombard Twitter with tweets that signify immaturity and are often caustic, to say the least?

I think if I were President Trump or on his staff I would welcome a special counsel investigation of the matter to put it to bed once and for all. Of course, I offer that with a presumption that he is innocent of accusations that have so far come without any evidence. Robert Mueller's credentials are basically impeccable and he is known as a man who will get to the bottom of things and follow the trail wherever it leads -- not…
